All you need to know about Glycerin - VOYA

The more exotic sounding a skincare ingredient is, the more hype it seems to get these days, particularly in a face mask.  But there is one hard hitting ingredient that often gets overlooked – Glycerine.

When we think of moisture boosters or humectants, we tend to think of the now popular Hyaluronic Acid. In VOYA products we use Sodium Hyaluronate which is a derivative of Hyaluronic Acid that is less susceptible to oxidation, and so is more stable and is better absorbed by the skin. But the lesser discussed Glycerine, is highly effective and is a fantastic ingredient to use in conjunction with Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate, amongst others.

How face masks can affect our skin.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR SKINCARE?

Glycerine is a natural occurring compound. It is a colourless liquid and found in natural fats in both animals and plants. It essentially acts like a sponge as it pulls moisture to the outer layer of the skin. Once it has been absorbed, it replenishes the moisture that your skin loses.

It prevents dryness by maintaining the skin’s barrier against free radicals and is often used to treat medical skin conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis.  It is also non-allergenic and so is suitable for acne prone or breakout skin. Glycerine is suitable for hydrating and gently cleansing.

WHERE DO WE GET IT?

The certified organic Glycerine that VOYA uses is derived from Coconut or Rapeseed and therefore is also suitable for use by Vegans.

THE MASK UNDERNEATH

As the daily use of masks increases due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, so are skin issues from the prolonged wearing of them. Obviously masks are a key protection measure to stop the spread of the virus and so are an important tool. But the discomfort caused by them does need to be addressed.

People have reported issues such as dryness, itchy skin, rashes and even breakouts. VOYA’s Maskerade Soothing Face Mask not only contains 8% Glycerine but also works as a protective gel mask with organic seaweed goodness which is anti-inflammatory, super hydrating and formulated to calm and nourish irritated skin. VOYA’s skincare experts would suggest wearing this mask everyday underneath your PPE, letting it soak in and act as a protective shield. In addition you should ensure to hydrate your body well by drinking 2 litres of water per day and giving your skin the opportunity to be exposed to fresh air as much as possible, when safe to do so.
