VOYA’s Organic Philosophy

We believe in organic and sustainable ways of doing business. That is why VOYA has adopted organic and sustainable ways of creating our products. We harvest wild organic seaweeds by hand to ensure the delicate coast environment of the West of Ireland is not damaged.

VOYA products contain as many organic ingredients as possible and we voluntarily submit our products to be certified by both the Soil Association COMOS and the Irish Organic Association (IOA). For a product to be labelled organic 95% of all ingredients must be organic.

VOYA is committed to using only natural and non-toxic ingredients. Our products contain certified organic ingredients (minimum 70%) and are made without:

  • Artificial Colours or Fragrances
  • Mineral Oils
  • GM Ingredients
  • Dioxins (carcinogenic)
  • Petrolatum or Petrochemicals (derived from petroleum)
  • Parabens
  • Imidazolidinyl Urea
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (detergent)
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Hexane
  • Phthalates or Aluminium

The COSMOS Standard

The COSMOS-standard is a new cosmetic certification developed to harmonise various certifications and labels in order to create one standard that is internationally recognised for natural and organic cosmetics. The “Cosmetic Organic Standard” was officially launched in February 2010 and is a result of Europe’s leading natural cosmetic certifiers coming together and forming a non-profit association, COSMOS-standard AISBL.

The COSMOS-standard association consists of five founding members who now authorise and oversee the certification, including the Soil Association (UK), Ecocert (France), Cosmebio (France), BDIH (Germany) and AIAB/ICEA (Italy). The main goal is to uphold the inspection and certification of organic and ecological products, eco-friendly systems and respect for the environment throughout the production chain.

To achieve COSMOS ORGANIC certification, 95 per cent of a product’s agro-ingredients themselves must be organic. The finished product must have a minimum of 20 per cent organic ingredients, which is comprised of physically and chemically processed organic ingredients but does not include water and/or minerals. The remaining 80 per cent of the finished product may be from natural origins, which are not used to calculate the organic percentage. For wash-off products which have a higher content of water, the finished product must meet a minimum of 10 per cent organic.

Within this standard are the core principles of prevention and safety, reflective from the production of raw materials to the distribution of finished products which includes:

Our Green Commitment

Our products are packaged using recycled, recyclable or biodegradable materials. Our packaging board is a special blend of FSC certified pulps using our own harvested seaweed and even the packing chips we use are 100% biodegradable and dissolves in water.

Cruelty Free

VOYA is proud to be a cruelty-free brand, we are totally opposed to the practice of animal testing in cosmetic research. We do not test any products on animals and have an agreement with our contract manufacturers that they don’t or will never be involved in animal testing of any kind.

WORLD LAND TRUST

VOYA has helped protect over 6,098 m2 of world wildlife habitat by cutting its carbon emissions and supporting the World Land Trust(WLT), an international conservation charity which protects the world’s most biologically important and threatened habitats acre by acre.

In 2013, VOYA committed to carbon-balance 72.60 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from energy consumption associated with general operations and business travel. This enabled the company to offset its unavoidable emissions through World Land Trust’s Carbon Balanced Programme which has helped to protect wildlife habitat in Numbami in Ecuador.

/>We are proud to say that from the 1st January 2013 – 31st December 2018  557.84943 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions associated with the general operations of VOYA have been offset. These funds will be invested in the protection and restoration of threatened tropical forests. WLT is working through local project partners to restore biologically important habitats throughout8 the world. Carbon Balanced projects are currently taking place in Vietnam, Ecuador, Paraguay and the portfolio is expanding.

Through the generous support of individuals and organisations, the World Land Trust has been instrumental in the purchase and protection of over 500,000 acres of tropical forest and other threatened habitats which would otherwise have been lost. Offsetting of CO2 emissions through WLT is a voluntary action demonstrating corporate commitment to addressing climate change and threatened biodiversity through credible conservation projects.

OUR ENVIRONMENT IS OUR LEGACY

Many of today’s beauty products are made up of varying mixtures of synthetically produced chemicals and these chemicals vary in their ability to penetrate the skin. Some are absorbed in small amounts, while some easily reach the blood vessels below the skin.

Many chemicals found in cosmetics do not cause obvious immediate signs of toxicity, but might slowly damage us through repeated use on our skin.

Seal rescue ireland

The rescue centre, which relies entirely on volunteers, receives approximately 600 phone calls a year reporting mainly Harbour and Grey seals that might need rescuing from around the entire coast of Ireland. Usually, only 10% of these are actually sick, injured or abandoned by their mothers, have got caught up in fishing nets, may be starving or ill or may have been bitten by dogs. The aim is to rehabilitate the seal pups back to full health and then return them to the wild when they are fit and ready.

Seals are a protected species under Irish and EU law and should not be touched or encouraged to go back into the water as it is quite normal for them to rest on land. The volunteer team at the sanctuary care for the seals, treating them for illness, feeding them and making sure they have clean water until they are ready to be released back into the sea.

The centre costs approximately €100,000 a year to run. VOYA is not only proud to officially sponsor Seal Rescue Ireland but has also pledged to adopt one seal for every month of the year. This money will go towards the daily care of the seal pups including providing food and fish to eat, clean water, vet services and medicine. If you are out on a beach, keep an eye out for seal pups in distress. Stormy weather and rough seas, human activity by means of boat traffic, as well as people and dogs on beaches can sometimes frighten away nursing mothers and inadvertently lead to pups being injured or orphaned.
